Instrumentation Instrumentation

A Process Equipment Automation Controller relies on Instrumentation to act as the sensor inputs (eyes, ears), and control ouputs (muscles) of a modern automated equipment system.   For simpler systems, relays, timers, pushbuttons, and other physical devices act as the controllers and HMI, and are referred to as the Controls.  Together you have Instrumentation & Controls (I&C).

I&C focuses on customer service and support at every stage of the project, from conception through start-up. Our well documented project approach and dedication to excellence consistently produces high quality I&C packages and smooth project execution.  We work with the client’s technical, production, and maintenance staff to design the I&C system per their requirements. We have extensive field experience with retrofits, implementing PLC, DCS, and hybrid control systems via conventional hardwired IO and bus technology.
I&C produces a wide range of documentation deliverables that include the following:

• Wiring Diagrams: Drawings that document the systems wiring.
• IO List: Inputs and Outputs: Tagname, description, signal type, calibration, etc.
• Panel Drawings: Panels enclose the electronics to protect it.
• Fieldbus Drawings: “Intelligent” instrumentation is connected via low level Fieldbus networks such as DeviceNet, Profibus, ControlNet, Foundation Fieldbus, Asi, Modbus, Modbus+, DH+, and RIO.
• Loop Drawings: Drawings depicting the associated components wiring.
• Logic Diagrams: Drawing depicting control logic.
• Instrument Specifications: A form with specifications of an instrument along with process requirements.
• Conduit Schedule / Plan: A list and/or drawings of the conduits sizes and paths.
Cable Schedule: Listing of cable details.
• Installation Details: Drawing depicting an instrument, or item, installation details.
• Nameplate List: A list of nameplate sizes, colors, and text.
• Intelligent Instrument Configuration: All non-standard settings for an instrument, drive, or intelligent device.

I&C is capable of executing projects on a turnkey basis where acquisition, configuration, calibration, assembly/fabrication, installation, startup, and ongoing maintenance are done by BSI.  BSI provides a single source of responsibility for project management, procurement, engineering, programming, start up and training, not just for I&C, but for all our disciplines.  Through established relationships with quality vendors, we collaborate to provide electrical equipment and fabricated panels that integrate our design specifications and meet all NEC or UL standards.

Experience, quality, and flexibility, makes BSI the logical choice for your I&C needs.
